Trump Flees a Threat Iran Never Needed to Make

Donald Trump confirmed the NATO decoy-plane switch Tuesday night and said the Secret Service ordered it — his first public account of the evacuation, delivered as a complaint about his own bodyguards. The New York Times carried his confirmation just after midnight Wednesday. The trigger, officials claimed, was an Iranian missile threat to Air Force One. Nobody has shown the public a shred of evidence the threat was real.
The details keep getting stranger. Trump left the summit in an airport catering truck, the Washington Post reported. Dan Scavino, Walt Nauta and Natalie Harp rode with him — Harp, 35, the former OANN host who has worked as Trump’s personal aide since 2022, the staffer known as his “human printer.” No Cabinet official made the truck. Marco Rubio and Scott Bessent flew home on the decoy Air Force One — the plane Iran was supposedly targeting — CBS reported. Pete Hegseth, the former Fox weekend anchor now running the Pentagon, boarded the secret flight with Trump. Stephen Miller got left behind on the decoy. The White House flew reporters home aboard that same decoy — and told them the president was on it. The White House Correspondents’ Association protested the use of journalists as decoys. Chuck Schumer and House Democrats demanded briefings Wednesday morning — they want to know who ordered what, and on what intelligence.
