Crowley Beats Hong — And the GOP’s $3.6 Million Bet
Republicans paid $3.6 million to pick their opponent. Wisconsin Democrats refused the gift — and Mike Lindell won’t concede his own party’s verdict.
David Crowley beat democratic socialist Francesca Hong in Wisconsin’s Democratic primary for governor Tuesday night — and beat the Republican Governors Association, which pumped $3.6 million into the race to put Hong on the November ballot. Republicans spent that money elevating the opponent they wanted. Narativ reported the scheme Tuesday: “Republicans Spent Millions Boosting Hong — Their Chosen Opponent.” Wisconsin Democrats read the price tag and voted the other way.
They refused the gift.
Crowley’s win was a choice, not an accident. Wisconsin Democrats came to terms with a hard fact: the Democratic Socialists of America are not the party’s savior — and in this race the DSA candidate doubled as a Trojan horse the RGA built, funded, and wheeled toward the gates. The voters left it outside. Some progressives welcomed Hong’s defeat, they told Politico early Wednesday — a movement wins nothing by nominating candidates the other side pays to promote.
