☢️ IRAN GOES ON OFFENSE
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard promised “powerful offensive operations” this morning as the sixty-day deadline to turn June’s ceasefire into an agreement expired. For 170 days Iran’s commanders called everything they did defensive. On Sunday night the Guard’s political deputy moved that line on state television — Iran’s actions stay defensive in nature and take an offensive form, and “the enemy must anticipate strategic surprises.” A senior Iranian official then gave Washington a few weeks before Iran escalates across the region. Iran’s foreign minister published the target list on August 6: oil fields, refineries, power grids, water plants and “U.S. assets and critical infrastructure across the Gulf.” Meanwhile Trump threatened to bomb Oman ninety-eight minutes after Iran signed a shipping deal with it, and claimed a direct line to the Guard. The Guard called that “fantasies brought on by the delusions and nightmares he is suffering from.” Fifty minutes. Nobody is negotiating, and Iran’s clock runs out inside the campaign.
🛸 THE GENERALS SAY THEY CAN’T STOP IT
Asked four days ago whether America could stop a drone swarm over its own territory, the deputy commander of Northern Command answered: “No.” He defends the homeland with one counter-drone team of eleven soldiers. NATO’s top commander in Europe warned a year ago that America may have to fight on three fronts at once and asked for help preparing. Nobody wrote the plan. This morning Trump cut joint exercises with South Korea and praised Kim Jong Un, leaving the ally holding one of those fronts less ready than it was yesterday.
🗳️ 78 DAYS
Adrian Fontes told the federal agency built to protect American elections this morning that he does not trust it. Georgia’s Republican secretary of state counts thirty federal threat briefings in 2020 and none this year. Trump took the protection apart — seventeen staff on leave, the threat-sharing centre shut, a third of the agency gone — then aimed what was left at the officials, with monitors in fifteen jurisdictions and criminal-liability letters to all fifty states.
⚖️ SULLIVAN IS WAITING
Todd Blanche will not promise that the Justice Department acts independently of Trump. “No, I’m not going to pledge that,” the Attorney General said. Four days ago Judge Emmet Sullivan warned his department about contempt over the Epstein documents. The docket carries one line from that hearing, and Blanche has filed nothing since.
🎥 HE SHOWED UP
Lev Parnas walked up to the Tate brothers’ lawyer and a group of Proud Boys outside a Miami jail and filmed them. Giuliani’s former fixer, asking the questions now. He tells it at 1 PM.
🎯 THE BIGGER PICTURE
Somebody is testing the doors. Iran’s Guard stopped calling this war defensive today and gave Washington a few weeks. Russia leaves Semtex on an ammunition flight in Germany and flies drones into Romanian villages until a Spanish pilot shoots one down. China rehearses a blockade of Taiwan.
All three are measuring a country that cannot say whose drones crossed its own bomber base in March, that cut readiness with the ally holding the Pacific this morning, and that has spent eighteen months firing the people who watch its elections. Trump already said out loud what a war does to a vote. At the White House last August, he cut across Volodymyr Zelensky, who was explaining that Ukraine cannot hold elections under martial law: “if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections. Oh, that’s good.” The room laughed.
Iran’s few weeks expire long before Americans vote in 78 days, and the officers who defend the sky over those polling places told a room of contractors in Huntsville last week that they cannot stop a swarm, they have no plan for a simultaneous war against China and Russia.
