The Postal Service's inspector general is opening an investigation into the agency's mail-ballot program after a whistleblower's complaint, House Oversight Democrats announced Friday evening, The New York Times reported. The same evening, Judge Indira Talwani blocked the program in federal court. Donald Trump ordered a machine built to judge every mail ballot in America; by Friday night it stood blocked from the outside and under investigation from the inside.
The program would force every election office in America to upload its mail voters — names and matching barcodes — into a Postal Service portal, and let the agency bounce whole batches of ballots over a single bad envelope. One failed barcode in a batch of 10,000 ballots rejects the entire batch, the whistleblower's lawyers say, out of a build they call "rushed, chaotic, and fundamentally flawed." A voter whose envelope lands in a bad batch loses her ballot over someone else's barcode. That is a cull.
