🇬🇧 BRITAIN BREAKS
Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband stood at the despatch box today and told the House of Commons that Britain agrees there is "ethnic cleansing of Palestinians" in the West Bank, "perpetrated by settler terrorists." No G7 foreign minister had ever said those words from the front bench. Britain wrote the Balfour Declaration and governed Palestine until 1948 — Miliband was describing a state his own country helped make. Israel answered the same day. Gideon Sa'ar closed the British consulate in East Jerusalem, threw Britain out of the military coordination centre at Kiryat Gat, ended British training of Palestinian Authority police and barred twelve Britons. Mike Huckabee, Washington's ambassador, went on Radio 4 and warned of American "repercussions or retaliations." Twelve governments, Canada and France among them, signed on to restrict settlement trade; Miliband's own import ban lands in six to nine months, not today. Britain's prime minister spoke to Trump on Monday. Sa'ar punished by afternoon. Huckabee threatened by breakfast. Trump, who has an opinion about everything, has yet to say a word.

Trump's lawyers asked the Supreme Court on Sunday to let the government collect the name and address of every American who votes by mail. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson gave the states until 4 p.m. Wednesday to answer. More than 250 sitting and former lawmakers, eight of them Republicans, told the Court on Tuesday no such power exists. A Boston judge blocked the rule on 4 September; twenty-three states are fighting it. Nevada shows the ground game. Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar beat the Justice Department's demand for his voter roll in August, then took seven DOJ subpoenas in three months. Homeland Security claimed 16,000 noncitizens on Nevada's rolls. It confirmed 185. Twenty-two straight defeats; the doubt lands anyway. Fifty-six days out.

Trump stood on the Ellipse today beside a 21-foot steel beam cut from the South Tower. Two days earlier on Fox he said he went to ground zero "the following day" with "a lot of construction workers" and "worked long and hard." He went on 13 September, in a black suit, working his cellphone. Richard Alles, the retired FDNY deputy chief who spent months on the pile, never saw him. Biographer Timothy O'Brien says Trump employed about twelve people. Twelve. The beam reaches Ground Zero on Friday. Trump is sending Vance.
🎪 PAPERS PLEASE
At least 45 Republican candidates and members are skipping Trump's two-night midterm convention, which opens in Dallas on Wednesday and nominates nobody. Appropriations chairman Tom Cole is dove-hunting in Oklahoma. Dallas police pulled the permit for the only organized protest and called it a favor. The Secret Service told residents inside the perimeter to carry proof they live there. Trump's Texas approval sits at 43 percent.
🍁 TWO INVOICES
Mark Carney started charging Americans today: C$27.6 billion of US goods, 50 percent on steel. "America is trying to break us so they can own us," he told Canadians. Trump answered "NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER"; no order followed. Gasoline hit a record $4.15 on Labor Day. Neither man touched the oil.
