Donald Trump told voters on Wednesday that gas stays expensive until the midterm is over. "Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward. I think it's going to take a little bit longer than the midterm," he told reporters before flying to Dallas. The war, he said, "is going to end immediately after the election because they can't hold out any longer." Brent hit $105.27 at 8:51 ET this morning, up $4.06 on the day, and American drivers paid $4.28 a gallon, up $1.08 on a year ago, AAA said. Diesel hit $5.98, the highest AAA has ever recorded.
Trump owns the oil that rises until then. His own disclosure lists Chevron and Exxon Mobil at $1 million to $5 million each and Marathon Petroleum at $250,000 to $500,000, in the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust. His nine largest oil and gas holdings gained an estimated $1.5 million to $4.4 million on paper between 27 February and 31 August, CNBC calculated Wednesday from the disclosure bands and share prices. His accounts traded through the war, CNBC found, on the days the war moved the market, each trade marked as J.P. Morgan's discretionary order; the bank is the trust's sole trustee.
