🤖 INDUSTRY LIED
Anthropic's Dario Amodei told CBS on Sunday his industry lied about the risks of what it built. On Saturday he asked the whole field to slow down, and Sam Altman and Elon Musk joined him. Last week his researcher Jacob Coxon quit, warning that many engineers fear AI "could kill us all." The makers are asking to be slowed down. Trump said no. On Monday he called the calls for controls a "sick conspiracy" — the only guardrail AI needs is "a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT" — and Speaker Mike Johnson dismissed regulation too; Chuck Schumer wants a classified briefing; AI stocks slid. Trump left a vacuum and King Charles is stepping into it: he convenes the AI companies in Scotland this week, and press reports put Anthropic, OpenAI and Google DeepMind in the room with an AI adviser to the Vatican. 🍁 CARNEY'S REWIRE
Larry Fink, Jon Gray and the Saudi, Abu Dhabi and Norwegian sovereign funds are in Toronto this morning for the Canada Investment Summit, the Globe and Mail reports; Mark Carney keynotes Tuesday with a $1 trillion target, and Canada's two biggest banks pledged $250 billion. While Trump bans Canadian whisky and dairy from September 29, Carney is selling Canada as the place for money that used to go south. The Wall Street Journal says he wants Canada an "associate member" of the EU; his own word Sunday was "unique alliance." This week he addresses the European Parliament in Strasbourg, then meets Andy Burnham in Liverpool. Carney is rewiring the world economy around Trump, further along than Trump has noticed.
🛢️ PIPELINE OUT
Satellite pictures show the damage to Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline; two officials told AP the repair takes three to five weeks, and diesel hit a record $6.23 as oil passed $109. Two days after Trump said the Houthis "called us," the Houthis hit a Saudi airbase, Riyadh asked to postpone the Hormuz talks and Iran blamed "events unfolding in Yemen," and both of the kingdom's routes to the sea are shut. Energy Secretary Chris Wright says the pipe reopens "soon." The Saudis paid for a protector and got a spectator.
💍 KREMLIN WEDDING
Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch close to Putin who runs the International Boxing Association, secretly bankrolled Donald Trump Jr.'s Bahamas wedding, ProPublica reported Monday. ProPublica has the documents: who paid, how, and how it stayed hidden. Narativ has traced Kremlin money around Trump from Oleg Deripaska and Paul Manafort to Kirill Dmitriev and Jared Kushner; this time it needed no back channel. It had a guest list.

Joe diGenova quit the Justice Department probe of Trump's enemies after a tense phone call with Attorney General Todd Blanche, CNN reported this morning. Houthis Used AI To Build Weapons. CEO: We Must Slow The Pace.
Dario Amodei, Anthropic's chief executive, wrote on Saturday 12 September that "we must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models." Two days earlier his company published a report saying "a cell of threat actors based in northern Yemen" used Claude "in place of human software engineers" to write the guidance, navigation and control software for a guided rocket, a ballistic missile with a stated range goal above 2,000 kilometres and a missile variant carrying a hypersonic glide vehicle. The cell test-fired the rocket. Anthropic says the test appears to have failed.
