Sean Wiswesser spent a career running CIA stations. On Narativ Live Thursday, the retired senior operations officer said on the record what no serving U.S. official has been willing to say anywhere: "I have no doubt in my mind that the GRU assisted the Iranians in killing Americans." He said it here, first.
The GRU runs satellite constellations built for electro-optical imagery, Wiswesser said — precise enough to pinpoint a base, a hangar, a plane. CNN counted fourteen Russian passes over Prince Sultan Air Base in the two days before the March strike that wounded a dozen Americans. Wiswesser read that run of overflights and said it "makes a very compelling case." Iran "has no such capability... to target us in that way." Russia does, and handed the targeting over anyway. "The GRU is more than happy to share intelligence to help kill Americans" — payback, on his read, for two years of American weapons flowing to Ukraine. The view, he said, is his own, not the CIA's.
Narativ laid out the shape of that payback on September 16. Warned on March 6 that Russia was steering Iran's missiles, Trump called the reporting "a stupid question." He phoned Putin three days later. Three days after that, his Treasury let Russian oil back on the water. Fifteen days after that, the missile hit.
