Federal prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating Darren Indyke and Richard Kahn. Indyke was Jeffrey Epstein's lawyer. Kahn was his accountant. Between them they ran Epstein's money for about twenty years. Since he died in 2019 they have run his estate. The Wall Street Journal reported the investigation on Wednesday. NBC News confirmed it that evening through a law enforcement source.
In recent months prosecutors have called in witnesses and asked for their emails and financial records, the Journal reported. The questions are about those witnesses' dealings with Indyke and Kahn. Nobody has been charged. Neither outlet could say what charges prosecutors have in mind. The prosecutors declined to comment.
Daniel Ruzumna represents both men. He said neither man has been subpoenaed, asked to talk to prosecutors, or told he is a target. He added that "not a single individual has ever accused Mr. Indyke or Mr. Kahn of sexual abuse or trafficking." Both men deny any wrongdoing.
Six months ago both men testified to the House Oversight Committee. Kahn went first, on Wednesday 11 March. He said he saw no red flags. Indyke went on Thursday 19 March. He said he had "no knowledge whatsoever" of Epstein's crimes. Both told the committee that no federal investigator had ever interviewed them. Narativ named both men in July 2020 and wrote that prosecutors would have to turn up the heat on them. That was six years ago. About time.
