🇬🇧 FAIRFORD ARRESTS
Police arrested five men overnight in Whelford, the village beside RAF Fairford, the English base American B-1 and B-52 bombers have flown strikes on Iran from since March. Gloucestershire officers took a call at 00:45 Sunday about three suspicious vehicles heading for the base; by two in the morning residents watched men handcuffed at the roadside. Counter-terror police then rearrested all five on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. Army bomb-disposal teams are still working through three white vans inside a 400-metre cordon, and 85 households are waiting in a leisure centre to go home. Nobody has been charged. Police have named no motive and no country. Trump, in Chicago, claimed the men were "looking to do big damage" and America had them "under view for a long time." Prime Minister Andy Burnham told the public not to speculate. Three weeks ago Trump called this war "small potatoes." Police can hold the five until October 11. Whether they name Tehran is the question the war now waits on.

Trump rejected Iran's seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, then told Axios on Sunday he expects more talks this week. Iran's foreign minister, in New York on Friday, said the strait can reopen within seven days if Washington lifts its naval blockade and waives oil sanctions, conditions he says are already in June's deal. Trump called those terms "what we would have maybe agreed to a year ago" and his blockade "the greatest blockade ever in military history." He holds one card, the blockade, so he keeps it and keeps talking.

Trump's voters are paying $6.47 a gallon for diesel today, just off Tuesday's record and 75 percent above a year ago. Republicans in competitive races are losing patience with the war, the Times reports. Cook Political moved 15 House races toward Democrats on Friday, and its founder Charlie Cook said on ABC the House has been "kind of a done deal for a good while." They pay at the pump, then bill him in November.
🎁 OLIGARCH GIFT
Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, called Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding gift from Umar Kremlev "stupid on stilts" on CNN. Kremlev, Putin's boxing boss, paid hundreds of thousands for the Bahamas party. Senator John Curtis wants Trump Jr. subpoenaed and Tillis would back a probe. Trump says the money went back. Nobody has shown a receipt.

A judge restored CNN's access Thursday. The White House kept it off Air Force One for Saturday's Knoxville trip, and the networks refused the seat. Attorney General Todd Blanche says Trump decides who flies on his plane.

Trump sent his war's bills out this weekend, and none went to Tehran. Britain got five men in handcuffs beside the base it lends him. His own voters got $6.47 diesel and a House that Charlie Cook says has been "kind of a done deal for a good while." Trump got one card, the blockade, and he told Axios he will play it again this week. His allies and his party now pay more for this war each week than Iran does, and he has 37 days to trade that card for cheaper gas before the midterms.
