Thom Tillis told Donald Trump in writing that "we are failing," and Politico Playbook published the texts Friday morning. Trump had called the North Carolina senator "weak and ineffective" and a "QUITTER" on Truth Social on May 22. Tillis answered that day: "I don't take this bullsht from anyone, including you Mr. President. Save that sht for the cowards who don't care if you fail. I care if you fail and right now we are failing." On June 5 Trump told reporters Tillis was "a loser." Tillis, who is not running again, wrote back the next day. The failing arrived Friday at 8:30. The Labor Department counted 29,000 new jobs in September, revised July into a loss and put unemployment at 4.2 percent. AP-NORC has Trump at 31 percent approval and 26 percent on the economy, the lowest of his second term. Every Republican on a November ballot can read those numbers. So what did Tillis say he would have told Trump if Trump had ever threatened him directly?

Counter-terrorism police arrested a 25-year-old dual British-Iranian national in Westminster Thursday over RAF Fairford, the base in Gloucestershire. He is not charged. Gov. Kathy Hochul handed the Cornell rape case to Attorney General Letitia James Thursday, saying the county prosecutor had "undercut" her faith and the public's. A former student alleges she was drugged and raped at a fraternity house in October 2024 and has sued Cornell and seven men. Cornell police took her statement in 2024. Nobody was charged. Trump answers all three on the water: a third carrier heading for Iran, a promise the war ends "very quickly," and a bet that crude falls before November 3. Thirty-two days. Every Republican on the ballot now chooses: wait for the oil price, or do what Tillis did.
