👀 THE FRONT PAGE
🛰️ UKRAINE
Elon Musk put the Starlink switch in the president's hand on Wednesday night. Within a day, Volodymyr Zelensky stopped obeying Donald Trump. Musk wrote it on X, answering former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov: "Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the U.S. government. Any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS." The White House declined to answer Wall Street Journal questions about the limits, and said the president "remains optimistic that we'll ultimately get a peace deal done." A senior U.S. official told Axios the administration "had nothing to do with" them. Zelensky told the Financial Times early Thursday that Ukraine will go back to hitting Russian refineries after three days of holding off at Washington's request. "We're done," he said. Overnight the Ryazan refinery south of Moscow burned. The regional governor confirmed the fire; Russia's defense ministry called it an attempted "massive attack" and said its air defenses shot down 166 drones.
🏦 THE BANKS
Elizabeth Warren filed a bill Thursday to make the Federal Reserve open its Epstein files on the banks. Twenty-four Democrats signed it, and one Republican. The bill requires the Fed and three other regulators, the FDIC, the OCC and the SEC, to hand over their Epstein records, compels them to investigate the banks and executives tied to him, and requires industry bans and civil penalties for anyone found to have helped him. The New York Times adds that they could make criminal referrals.
🎙️ PRESS DESK
Katie Zacharia told the country she was a lawyer four times this year. She knew she wasn't. Wall Street Journal reporters wrote at 7:53 a.m. that Trump's press secretary sat the California bar exam in 2011, after law school at Pepperdine, and did not pass. By 11:31 a.m. a senior administration official had confirmed it to NBC: she "did not pass the California bar exam when she took it after graduating from law school."
🗳️ TEXAS
Greg Abbott is tied with Gina Hinojosa four days before Texas starts voting, the first Democrat with a real shot at the governor's office since Ann Richards. Abbott's appointees run the voter rolls, and two of them are in court over 593,000 registrations the state's portal failed to send for a year.
👩 THE PURGE
Trump fired two of his eight cabinet-level women this spring, two more resigned, and men took all four chairs inside eleven weeks. This week he fired Kimberly Guilfoyle and began asking allies who should replace Susie Wiles.
💸 GRIFT COUNT
The count stands at nine. Thursday adds the ballroom's $330 million donors, Tether's $6.3 million to Bo Hines's family firm, Musk's $94 million for the House, a senator's $4.2 million water project and the Kennedy Center's missing money.
🧭 THE BIGGER PICTURE
Trump turned on Zelensky, on Texas voters and on his own press desk in one week, three weeks before a vote, and Elizabeth Warren turned the Epstein case on the banks the same morning. The road from the banks runs to 2008, and Narativ has already walked it.
