👀 THE FRONT PAGE
🕴️ ZAMPOLLI
Paolo Zampolli's boss told him in writing a year ago that his Balkan business was "possibly unlawful." Then nobody looked. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau wrote the email Nov. 15, 2025, and copied 15 colleagues. Zampolli, he wrote, meant to carry on "undertaking unauthorized and possibly unlawful ventures in commercial and economic matters." Landau also warned the work could bring "disciplinary action, dismissal, and legal liability." Zampolli kept going. In February he sat in Banja Luka with the prime minister of Republika Srpska, the Serb half of Bosnia that sides with Moscow, and took "a very important document with numerous projects," hydroelectric plants among them. The department's whole response was emails. There is no public record of any probe of his ventures. The only inspector-general request on file is Zampolli's own, filed in June against Landau over a leak. Politico printed the emails Thursday morning.
🛰️ STARLINK
Donald Trump called Volodymyr Zelensky harder to deal with than Vladimir Putin on Thursday night. By Friday morning the Kremlin was repeating him. The order that slowed Ukraine's battlefield satellites came from inside the White House. Two U.S. officials and a Western official told Reuters on Thursday that the White House told the Pentagon's leaders to slow down the Starshield service for Ukraine's military. The sources did not say who in the building gave the order. The only denial came from a senior official: "No such request was ever made by the president."
⛽ BLOOD DIESEL
Trump told the country a week ago that Russian diesel was coming "immediately." None has come. Alexander Novak, Russia's deputy prime minister, told reporters Wednesday that the two energy ministries are still negotiating a contract. Russia resumed diesel loadings this week, and the tanker that took on 40,000 tons at the Baltic port of Primorsk on Tuesday sailed for Morocco. What does exist is a license.
🗳️ MUSK
Elon Musk gave Republicans $178 million in three months. The filings landed Thursday, the week his satellites slowed Ukraine's front. In all of 2025 he gave the Senate fund $10 million. He is now the biggest known donor to the midterms. On Tuesday night the Starlink terminals Ukraine's army fights on slowed down, and missions failed.
⚖️ MARTIAL LAW
Peter Ticktin wants martial law if November is "another rigged election." He said so on tape. Ticktin went to military school with Donald Trump. He is Tina Peters' lawyer. Axios obtained the call and printed it Friday morning.
💸 GRIFT COUNT
This is the week's count of who got paid around this administration. Thursday it stood at nine. Friday it is 11: the nine we counted, Musk's number doubled, and two new ones, Trump's drugmaker stocks and Musk's 2024 lottery.
🧭 THE BIGGER PICTURE
Every story on this page runs through Moscow: the envoy's deals, the Starlink order, the diesel, the ads, the plan for the count.
