Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries asked a federal judge on Monday to put Attorney General Todd Blanche's Justice Department under a court order for the last week before the midterms. The judge is James Boasberg.
The party's Senate and House campaign committees, its governors association, the Nevada State Democratic Party and one California voter joined the motion. They want Boasberg to bar Blanche, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and their agencies from demanding that any state strike a registered voter, withhold a ballot, set one aside uncounted, or threaten an election official with prosecution for refusing, until the last state certifies. Trump called for impeaching the judge in March 2025, without naming him, after Boasberg tried to halt his deportation flights; Boasberg drew this case on Oct. 21. He has the parties on Zoom Thursday at 2 p.m. on the Democrats' motion for fast discovery and has set no date yet on the order itself. The government told the plaintiffs it opposes the order.
They handed him mostly the government's own letters.
