Trump made the mistake of attacking Canada days before their crucial election, and Prime Minister Mark Carney didn't hesitate to hit back. Trump declared the US "doesn't want Canada to play any part in the North American auto industry" – a direct assault on a key sector of the Canadian economy.
Carney's response was swift and unambiguous: "This is Canada – we decide what happens here."
