The feud between Donald Trump and Elon Musk reached new depths Friday as the White House confirmed Trump has no interest in talking to his former ally. "I'm not even thinking about Elon. He's got a problem, the poor guy's got a problem," Trump told CNN, while reportedly considering getting rid of the red Tesla Model S he bought just months ago. Tesla shares clawed back some ground after losing $150 billion in value Thursday—the largest single-day decline in company history.

But as Musk and Trump's bromance explodes into mutual destruction, some on the left are already arguing that Musk should be allowed back in the fold—just for his supposed opposition to Trump's Big Beautiful Bill. Putting aside the real likelihood the whole spat may have been a public rehabilitation exercise for Musk, odds are the two men will reunite, because their financial futures depend on it. Democrats thinking of celebrating Musk as a hero will see that strategy backfire spectacularly.
