This piece on Doge and their Russian masters is the most terrifying thing I’ve witnessed yet. We have got to get these people out of power now. The rest of the program was frightening as well and not as scary as the Doge part.

A scary thing is that Europe is not realizing how scary the use of social media is for their populations too. Intellectually they are starting to get it and they have the Digital Services Act of 2022, but they are not enforcing it. We should all be writing to them to enforce it.

I'm very scared for trans people in the US. Do you all ever discuss that? I'm the mom of a trans adult. I want to leave the US with my trans child but my child doesn't understand how cruel MAGA is. I don't truse them not to be very violent. Dump posted an upside down pink triangle on social media the other day. That symbol was used in Nazi Germany to mark LGBTQ people for extermination. That is f*cked up. What do you guy think? I am a LOUD activist on social media but I ge really scared about it. But also compelled to do it. Would love your opinion. Do you think we should try to leave?

Jeanne, I definitely think you should leave. How old is your child? My daughter is not trans, but is living abroad now, and she is 20 and does not really understand what is going on in the US. I don't want her to visit her friends. I am working on convincing her that they should visit her here. I think trans people are going to struggle in many parts of the world even where there are laws protecting them, but when the government is openly against them it is just too dangerous. I am a career teacher and was wondering how old your child is, and where in the US you are. I would love to give you some talking points and experiences to help.

Here is a piece I wrote in November, and I will be updating it soon, but it is still relevant.

I'd love advice. My family is really stubborn. They think that it's all going to work out and we'll be able to get the country back. I'm scared to death. When I just sit around it's like waiting for doom. I want to have a plan just in case this gets even worse. I think "he" is already taking us into a full blown dictatorship. I'm scared for my kids. They are 34, 30 and 25. My youngest is adopted from China. I'm scared for her too. It's awful!!

I’m with you! Before the election even, I was worried and telling my family, “Can we please sit down and seriously talk about an escape plan!?” I am sorry I didn’t scream it to them!

I'm sorry you're experiencing this too. I've been studying different people that practice manifestation. Since I'm only one in this family that feels the urgency I've been closing my eyes when I'm doing my swimming that I do for exercise. The experts say to visualize that you already have the thing you want. They say ➡️ see it, feel it, imagine tastes, smells, etc. Try to make it as real as possible. So I do that pretty much every day. I also use the Insight Timer app and that helps a lot!!

Jeanne, it is good that your children are hopeful and optimistic that is their job at that age. The first thing you can do is establish that you are leaving and that you would like them to come with you. Secondly, you have to figure out where you are going and create a place for them there. Then, when they see you going they are going to think twice. You will be providing an out for them. That is you will be providing a place for them to go. I left and now I have friends who are working to leave. They will do this because I have gone and have survived. It is a powerful message. So, you need to figure out where to go. The easiest are Canada and Mexico in terms of location, but I know people who are looking at Costa Rica. Do you have an idea of where you would like to go?

Here is the LGBTQ Index, which shows how friendly countries are to trans people, as included in this catagory.

https://www.equaldex.com/equality-index

Discussions I have read on Reddit say that pick some of the Blue States first. If you are in a Blue state stay there until things change for the worse. Many recommended Oregon. However, as the US is turning into a Christian Nationalist Theocracy, it would be a good idea to have a Plan B country. The discussion is that certain cities are good in different countries. That makes sense.

Here is another index on this. The Rainbow Map of European countries.

https://rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org/

This link lists LGBTQ friendly countries and the cities to live in.

Three are English speaking. For your child adopted from China, you are going to want to look at countries with a sizeable Asian or Chinese populations.

Here is that list in Europe.

Here is a discussion of Asians in Latin America.

My daughter won't go without her friends that are all trans. So I would say I'd probably want to go to someplace that has a lower cost of living. My son has stated that he would move to either Mexico or canada. His long time gf that he lives with us half Mexican. I have 3 good friends in New Zealand. They have a great program at rainbowpathnz.com. But it is far away. If her friends could go too my trans daughter would come. She's 34. She lives in Washington state right now. My son is 30 and lives in red red Missouri but he is cis, white male. My daughter that is Chinese is 25. She is in totally denial. She loves her life. She loves her job at a small lawyers office and she has a serious boyfriend. I feel strongly that we need to get the hell out of here but I don't know if I could leave if at least one of my kids didn't go. And my husband is halfway in denial also. I wanted to leave when DJT first got elected. He got mad at me and basically said I was getting hysterical which I do resent. Because DJT has been even worse than we all thought he'd be. I have an adoptive mom community and an artist community that are both world wide. I guess that's why moving doesn't seem so hard for me. But to my family it seems impossible. My niece travels to Germany often and my grandpa immigrated from there. Do you know if Germany gives any points for having that relationship? She even has a family that she was an exchange student with and is still really close to them. I'd go to NZ, Germany, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, or any other place you'd recommend. Ask me anything. My email address is champfam@swbell.net if you'd like to email me instead of talking on here.

Thank you for your post. Your message was very helpful to me to know how dire this situation is for all the wonderful people who are LGBTQ. I hope you are able to stay. If you leave be sure you go to a place that is friendly. I am only one and I will assemble with others, write letters, call the capital and do anything else I can do to bring back the AMERICA that we know we can be and the one that we love. F*ck Rump! F*ck Rump's cabinet! F*ck MuskRat!

I am not sure why people use “woke” as an epithet to describe behaviour and outlook that attempts to be decent to others and aware of inequality. The word has a history in the Black community that is not that of the people targeted by using it in that way, that history must be respected. But, while we (as humans) want to plot people on a hard left-right separation we need to remember that, using Canada as an example, we had *progressive* conservatives, who were quite forward looking until the Reformacons. Without religiously-founded *social* conservatism (discrimination) dominating politics on the right we would see that it is in everyone’s interests to remove barriers to people living to their highest potential.
