The battle over federal authority intensified this week as the Trump administration launched unprecedented challenges to congressional oversight and constitutional checks and balances. Building on last week's financial system power grab, we're now seeing a coordinated assault on diplomatic, intelligence, and administrative functions of government.
The Power Grab is a list of this week’s most egregious abuses of power by the Trump Administration.
What constitutes an abuse of power? We define it as the deliberate misuse of legitimate executive authority to weaken democratic institutions, target specific groups of Americans, reward political allies while punishing enemies, and concentrate power by bypassing normal checks and balances. Think of it as taking tools meant to maintain democracy and instead using them to dismantle it.
Power Grab serves as an early warning system, helping citizens and lawmakers understand how seemingly isolated incidents connect to form larger patterns that threaten the fundamental principles of democratic governance.
