So we are China-USA. Time for US States to become their own taxing and service providing entities. All states have larger GDPs than countries of comparable population size that provide their citizens with everything. My own state of Illinois is around the size of Belgium with a larger GDP. Could be the sole taxing entity and provide citizens with infrastructure, health care, pension, transportation, housing, education, poverty funds, disaster relief--all things that we will no longer be getting from the federal government for our federal tax dollars. As such entities they should also be deciding whether or not to have abortion, gun control, or tariffs. They can decide whether they want to have immigrants or not, and how to handle immigrants they don't want. States can choose to pool money for military etc... DC would need to have Statehood, and the white house and government buildings could be like Vatican City. Their own city-state separate from the rest of DC.
Countries like Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Switzerland do not collect both taxes. If they collect national taxes then a portion goes to the states, each state gets an equal portion relative to their size. Switzerland collects more local taxes and small national. Taxing systems are different, and I would not say ours works the best. Our government collects a lot of money yet our cities look more run down, and our people are less well taken care of than in other wealthy countries.
The significant effects of the rapid power consolidation include the destruction of institutional norms, disrespect for laws and professional standards, and recalibrations of public expectations downward. Utter chaos that few have the bandwidth to evaluate.
