You have to get planning permission to pull down a building in the UK, you can’t even cut down a listed tree without permission. Even if you have started demolition you can be stopped from continuing. There is surely some similar protection, at least for buildings, in the US. The White House does not belong to Donald Trump. Can nobody stop this wrecking ball? Do we all have to sit by and sigh and say, ‘oh well…’? And King Charles may be a king, but he would never tear down a wing of Windsor Castle, or Buckingham Palace.
