In the late 1970s, I first heard that a US Secretary of Agriculture (Earl Butz) had avowed publicly that "Food is a weapon" and one of the best. Yet it's true that over the aeons and over many cultural periods and places, military sieges and scorched earth tactics were also all about starving the populace and bringing them to heel. .............................. I do find that our human behaviours are too much like chimps and not as much as I'd wish like bonobos - though we share the same % of DNA with both of them.
