More than 1.2 million children worldwide could die in the next five years due to a lack of vaccinations, following the Trump administration's decision to cut U.S. funding to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The funding cuts come at a critical moment as measles outbreaks emerge across several regions, raising alarms among public health officials.
"Thanks to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, more than 1 billion children have been immunized against the world's deadliest diseases," Melinda French Gates wrote on social media. "Now the U.S. government is reportedly planning to end its support for Gavi—support that's been critical to this progress."
