What DOGE Will Know About You
In Part 2 of The New Feudalism, we expose what DOGE will know about you if it connects all the data it's gathering.
Quick Recap
In Part 1, which you can read here, we explored how Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is rapidly gaining unprecedented access to America's most sensitive data systems. From IRS records to Social Security data, from Treasury payment systems to personnel files, DOGE is conducting what amounts to a "hackathon" to connect previously isolated government databases together. As one federal judge described it, this access is "tantamount to hitting a fly with a sledgehammer."
Today, we examine exactly what these combined data systems will reveal about every American, and why this matters for your life, liberty, and privacy.
The All-Seeing Eye
If DOGE and Palantir succeed in connecting these systems, the resulting monolith will have deep visibility into every citizens life - like a digital X-ray - would expose every aspect of your life:
From your IRS records, they'll know every job you've ever had, how much you made, what you own, what you owe, which charities you support, and which political organizations you've donated to. They'll know your business ideas through patent applications and startup filings. They'll know every company you own, every partnership you've entered, every venture you've invested in – including those deliberately structured for privacy. Every asset and liability will visible.
From Social Security data, they'll know your parents, your children, your dependents. They'll know if you've been divorced, widowed, or remarried. They'll know if you have a disability, when you plan to retire, and how much you'll receive in benefits.
From Treasury payment records, they'll know if you receive any government assistance, grants, or contracts. They'll know which government programs you depend on and which could be leveraged against you.
From OPM data (if you've ever worked for the government or applied for a federal job), they'll know your educational background, employment history, psychological evaluations, personal references, and security clearance investigations. They'll have access to workplace reports documenting personal struggles – mental health episodes, substance abuse issues, conflicts with colleagues, performance problems. They'll know about that time you took medical leave for depression, the marital problems you disclosed to HR, or the rehabilitation program you completed. They'll know which of your colleagues reported concerns about you and what they said.
If DOGE is ever able to include medical records into their system then those concerns would extend to every citizen.
