🏦 CHINA CALLS TRUMP’S BLUFF
Scott Bessent announced the biggest economic action of Donald Trump's presidency on Monday and left out the one measure that would have worked. He called it Operation Economic Outcast and designated roughly 60 individuals, entities and vessels across Hong Kong, mainland China, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore. "No one is above the reach of US sanctions," he said. "Every country has a defined timeline to shut down activities we have identified." He named no country and no deadline. He designated no major Chinese bank. That is the hammer. Chinese refiners buy more than 80 percent of the oil Iran ships abroad, and a Chinese bank clears the payment. Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian had already refused, calling the campaign "illegal unilateral sanctions" on Friday and saying it again after Bessent spoke. Chinese regulators ordered firms on May 2 to ignore US sanctions outright. Xi Jinping arrives at the White House in late September. He has said nothing himself. He has not needed to.
🍁 CHAMPAGNE MATCHED TRUMP TO THE DOLLAR
François-Philippe Champagne announced at 11 a.m. that Canada will tariff $27.6 billion of American goods from Sept. 8 — the Finance Department's figure, the same total Washington hit on Saturday. About 700 products at 50, 25 and 15 per cent, mirroring the American rate on each good. Energy and potash are off it. Champagne called that "strategic" and "proportionate," withholding the two exports Americans cannot quickly replace. Officials briefing reporters beforehand said the list protected Canadian market share. Mélanie Joly said otherwise on camera: "We're also targeting products that will target states in the U.S." Carney never took the podium; he sent four ministers. Trump answered on Truth Social before 7:16 a.m., proposing to rename Lake Ontario "Lake America."
🗳️ TRUMP PUT $830,000 INTO A PRIMARY FOR GRAHAM’S SISTER
MAGA Inc. pushed roughly $830,000 into Sen. Darline Graham Nordone's turnout operation on Monday, hours before South Carolina Republicans voted on the senator Trump picked for them. Gov. Henry McMaster appointed her six weeks ago, after her brother Lindsey Graham died on July 11. Asked about Taiwan at the single debate, she said she was "not that informed on national security." Rep. Ralph Norman matches her on policy and asked Trump for the endorsement she got before declaring. Trump rallied for her Friday and phoned a tele-rally Monday night.
⚖️ THE AIR FORCE JAILED A MAJOR OVER WORDS AL GREEN FILED
Maj. Jason Watson stood on the Capitol steps in July in Air Force uniform holding a sign: IMPEACH. CONVICT. REMOVE. Rep. Al Green escorted him, filed those articles Monday, and went back to work. This week the Air Force charged Watson with ten specifications, three under Article 88, contempt toward officials — two convictions since 1951. D.C. prosecutors saw the same afternoon and dropped it. Watson sits in a Maryland jail.
🔒 ENGELMAYER THREW OUT MAXWELL’S PETITION
Judge Paul Engelmayer threw out Ghislaine Maxwell's bid to be freed Monday, using her nine hours with Todd Blanche. He refused a certificate of appealability; the Second Circuit can still grant one. Her lawyer Leah Saffian said in November that exhausting every appeal comes first. Engelmayer just took the last serious one.

Pete Hegseth fired the military's top lawyers one February night — "roadblocks to orders that are given by a commander in chief." Eighteen months on, the Air Force jailed a major for talking. Roadblocks, cleared.

François-Philippe Champagne matched Trump to the dollar on Tuesday morning, and Trump proposed renaming a lake. He spent $830,000 the same day to hold a Senate seat inside his own party. Trump asks Beijing. He asks Ottawa. He asks South Carolina. He does not ask Maj. Jason Watson, who sits in a Maryland cell for holding up a sign — Pete Hegseth already fired the officers whose job was to tell a president no.
