ICE is offering up to $5 million for one file holding the name, address and voting history of every American voter — Wired reported the plan Wednesday, part of a DHS surge against what the administration calls voter fraud. Nobody has to open the file for it to work: a voter only has to know ICE wants her name. Until this week the fear had no federal address — fifty states keep the rolls, and no federal police agency has ever held the country's voters in one file. Now the timing stacks: a Boston judge decides today whether her block on the Postal Service's ballot-screening system holds, the first state mails ballots tomorrow, and ICE's award lands within weeks — 61 days before the vote. ICE already ambushes immigrants at courthouses for showing up; a voter file extends the hunting ground to the polling place. Narativ called it: the January 6 crew runs the election machinery. The fear votes first — and that is the point.
