White House pushes out Guilfoyle, Don Jr.'s ex-fiancée

Trump's son is the one person in both stories: his ex-fiancée's $100,000 ask and the Putin ally who paid for his wedding party.

The White House asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as ambassador to Greece this morning, less than a week after a Wall Street Journal story said she asked a donor to pay a $100,000 credit-card bill in exchange for access. She is Donald Trump Jr.'s former fiancée. She is also the third woman out of her post this year. And the corruption now sits inside the president's family: a week ago the Putin-allied oligarch who paid for Don Jr.'s wedding celebration said Don Jr. had paid him back.

Katie Zacharia announced it at her first briefing as press secretary. "We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign," she said. "She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well." She gave no reason and named no replacement. Guilfoyle resigned this morning, NBC reported, and wrote on X that the allegations are false.

Guilfoyle asked Eric Deters, a Kentucky lawyer and longtime Trump donor, to wire $100,000 to American Express before her confirmation hearing last year, in exchange for access to officials. "It won't show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express," she texted him on Signal. Her lawyers say she never sought money, that Deters owed her for speaking at his events, and they dispute that the texts are genuine. Deters says he will sue her and her lawyers.

Marco Rubio told reporters at his plane in Athens on Oct. 8, with Guilfoyle watching, "It's not the gospel. It's not the gospel for me." On Monday a reporter asked Trump whether he would fire her. "Well, we're looking at it," he said. "We're not happy."

The State Department's inspector general is investigating her and the embassy, NBC reports.

That is the small bill. The bigger one was paid for Trump's son.
