The Liberal Party, led by Mark Carney, has secured enough seats to form the next government of Canada according to CBC projections. With Newfoundland and Labrador reporting first, Liberals have already claimed four seats in the province with one still being contested, while Conservatives have secured two.
The election has delivered key victories for the Liberals in Atlantic Canada, with former fisheries minister Joanne Thompson retaining St. John's East, Tom Osborne winning Cape Spear by a commanding margin, Philip Earle taking Labrador, and Paul Connors securing Avalon.
While CBC has projected a Liberal government, it remains unclear whether Carney will command a majority in Parliament. The race in Terra Nova-The Peninsulas remains tight with Conservative Jonathan Rowe leading Liberal Anthony Germain by only about 300 votes.
These early results from Newfoundland and Labrador set the tone for what appears to be a successful night for the Liberal Party as they prepare to form government under Mark Carney's leadership.
